Insurgent Practices of Necessity
How do we deal with the polycrises cities and regions are facing today?
After an introduction by Prof. Hanna Hilbrandt, Thireshen Govender will present his perspectives on the strategies of infrastructure provision in the context of extreme volatility. Based on his empirical research in South Africa, he will reflect on what design practitioners can do to create, despite the perpetual crisis situations we must grapple with.
Prof. Dr. Catalina Ortiz and Dr. Katrin Hofer will respond to this stance, drawing from their own research and perspectives spanning between Europe and the sites in the Global South. Following this, we will collect questions and comments from the audience, and engage in a discussion moderated by Prof. Lindsay Blair Howe.
The event is taking place in English on Wednesday, 11. December 2024, at 17:30 at the ETH Hönggerberg Campus HIL Building, Room E9 (Stefano-Franscini-Platz 5, Zürich).
Lecture: Thireshen Govender (UrbanWorks), Catalina Ortiz (UCL), Katrin Hofer (ETHZ)
